What to Write in an Islamic New Baby or Aqiqah Card

A new baby arrives with a thousand messages on the parents' phones. Most of them say the same three words. A card they can stand on a shelf next to the first photographs does something those texts cannot. You still have to write inside it.

Keep the baby at the centre

Use their name if you know it. MashaAllah is enough of an opening. Then one dua for the child and one line for the parents: sleep, ease, a house that has room for this new person. You do not need to predict the child's whole life.

Messages that feel warm, not generic

“MashaAllah. May Allah make her a joy for you, protect her, and let her grow in iman and good character.”

“Congratulations. May this little one be a source of barakah in your home, and may these early weeks be gentler than they look.”

“Aqiqah Mubarak. Sorry we cannot be there in person. May Allah accept it and raise him righteous. We are so happy for you.”

“What a blessing. May Allah grant you all health, and fill the house with adhan and laughter.”

Boy, girl, or you do not know yet

If the card is for a baby whose name or gender you have not been told, write “your baby” and keep the dua for protection and righteousness. Do not guess. Do not write a novel about who they will become.

Do not joke about sleepless nights if the birth was hard. Do not give parenting advice they did not ask for. This is a greeting, not a lesson.

Aqiqah when you cannot go

A card is a good stand-in. Congratulate them, mention the aqiqah if they used that word, and send a dua for acceptance. If you are gifting money, say so on a separate slip, not across the artwork.
